There are eight temples of Shri Ganesha in different areas of Pune, they are called Ashtavinayak. These temples are also called self-made temples. It means that God himself had appeared here, not by anybody establishing his statue. These temples are very ancient and they also have historical significance.
In each temple, Ganapati has a different name - Moreshwar, Mahaganapati, Chintamani, Girijatmak, Vighneshwar, Siddhivinayak, Ballaleshwar and Varadvinayak. These temples are in Morgaon, Ranjangaon, Theur, Lenyandri, Ozar, Siddhatek, Pali (Raigad) and Mahad (Raigad) respectively.
The Darshan Yatra of these temples is also known as Ashtavinayak Tirtha Yatra. Everybody should visit the Ashtavinayak in Maharashtra at least once in a life time.
